    Tiananmen Square -- Tiananmen Square is the largest city square in the world, at 440,000 square meters, and can hold about one million people for public celebration or gatherings. In the square tourists can climb the Tiananmen Rostrum, attend the national flag raising ceremony every morning at sunrise, visit the National Museum of China, and go to the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong, in which one will see the body of the great Chinese leader.
    Forbidden City -- Forbidden City, also known as Palace Museum, was home to 24 emperors of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. In the ancient time, the emperor claimed to be the son of the heaven and such divine place was certain forbidden for the ordinary people and it is why the Forbidden City is so called. Covers an area of about 150, 000 square meters, the museum is a real treasures house of Chinese cultural and historical relics, recognized as one of the most important five palaces in the world. The splendid architecture of the Forbidden City represents the essence and culmination of the traditional Chinese architectural accomplishment. In 1961 the Palace Museum was listed as one of the important historical monuments under the special preservation by the Chinese central government and in 1987, it was nominated as the world cultural heritage by the UNESCO.
    Temple of Heaven -- Seen as the most holy of Beijing's imperial temples, temple of Heaven has been described as "a masterpiece of architecture and landscape design". It was where the emperor came every winter solstice to worship Heaven and to solemnly pray for a good harvest. The architecture of the temple represents two themes: in the heaven and on the earth. The 6 meters high walls of the temple constitute a semi- circle in the north and a semi- rectangle in the south. This special layout illustrates an important belief in ancient China that the heaven is round and the earth rectangular. The northern section of the wall is high while the south is low, which means that the heaven is higher and superior to earth. The Temple of Heaven has been nominated by the UNESCO as a world heritage.

    Daily program: Mutianyu Great Wall, Ming Tombs (Chang Ling)

    Scenic spots:
    Mutianyu Great Wall -- Mutianyu Great Wall is located in Huairou County 70 kilometers northeast of Beijing. As one of the best-preserved parts of the Great Wall, Mutianyu used to serve as the northern barrier defending the capital and the imperial tombs. Mutianyu is part of the Jundu Mountain and is surrounded by woodland and streams and the forest is over 70 percent. This 2,250 meters long portion of the Great Wall has the largest construction scale and best quality among all sections of Great Wall.
    Ming Tombs (Chang Ling) -- The Ming Tombs, located in Changping District, about 50 kilometers from the northwest of Beijing, are surrounded by mountains on three sides. The imperial cemetery covers an area of 120 square kilometers and there are 13 Ming Dynasty emperors buried there (along with 23 empresses and a number of concubines, princes and princesses), thus it is also called The 13 Mausoleums. These tombs are the best preserved Chinese imperial tombs and have been nominated by UNESCO as world cultural heritage.

    Summer Palace -- UNESCO has this to say of the Summer Palace: "Amasterpiece of Chinese landscape garden design. The natural landscape of hills and open water is combined with artificial features such as pavilions, palaces, temples and bridges to form a harmonious ensemble of outstanding aesthetic value." The Summer Palace is said to be the best preserved imperial garden in the world, and the largest of its kind still in existence in modern China, The Chinese call it Yihe Yuan (Garden of Restful Peace), and the landscaped gardens, temples and pavilions were designed to achieve harmony with nature, to soothe and please the eye. Small wonder that UNESCO added this 300 hectare site to the World Heritage was listed in 1998.

    Scenic spots:
    The Qin Terracotta Army Museum -- The Terracotta Army Museum lies 1.5 km east of The Tomb of Qin Shihuang, who unified China 2200 years ago. Emperor Qin, from whom China gets its name, ordered the creation of this model army.
    It is certainly one of the most memorable parts of any trip to China. The site was made a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site in 1987.
    The terracotta army itself was discovered in 1974 when some farmers were digging a well. It is estimated that the tomb took 38 years to build, between 247 BC and 208BC, and utilized the labor of over 700,000 conscripts.
    Forest of Steles -- Once the Temple of Confucius, the Xian Forest of Steles was originally built in Northern Song dynasty (1090 A.D.) when a large Confucian collection of steles cut in A.D. 837 - the oldest existing texts of the Confucian classics - was moved here for safekeeping. It is an art treasure-house with the oldest and richest collection of steles in China. It is not only one of the centers of ancient Chinese stone-engraving classics, but also the focus of the works of art of celebrated calligraphers of past dynasties. The numerous standing steles resemble a forest, hence the name "Forest of Steles"'. With a history of almost 900 years, it is an art gem renowned at home and abroad.
    Big Wild Goose Pagoda -- Located in the Cien Temple 4 kilometers from downtown Xian, the Big (Great) Wild Goose Pagoda is one of Xian's main landmarks. It was built in 652 A.D, designed and supervised by the temple's first abbot Xuan Zang for keeping the Buddhist Sutras and Buddha's Relics he had brought back with him from his travels in India. The temple's grounds, gardens, architecture and the Big Goose Pagoda are beautiful. Strolling through the many gardens or looking up at the pagoda is unforgettable experiences. The Big Wild Goose Pagoda is one of the symbols of Xian and is a must-see for visitors to this ancient city.

    Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall -- Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall is located on Shanghai People's Square, and adjacent to the municipal government building. The Exhibition Hall is a six-storey building with two basement levels, which displays Shanghai's urban planning and development. Exhibitions include models of planned and recent developments, as well as Shanghai's history. The centerpiece of the exhibition is a huge scale model of the city of Shanghai, showing all existing and approved buildings. Visitors can view the model at "ground level", or ascend a gallery running around it for views from above.
    Oriental Pearl Tower with Shanghai Municipal History Museum(Outside viewing) -- The Oriental Pearl Tower is located in Pudong Park in Lujiazui, Shanghai. The tower, surrounded by the Yangpu Bridge in the northeast and the Nanpu Bridge in the southwest, creates a picture of 'twin dragons playing with pearls'. With a unique design composed of balls and columns, the tower has become Shanghai's newest landmark and a big magnet for tourists. The whole design is rich in poetic and pictorial splendor, which gives the tourist the impression that pearls of various sizes are dropping onto the emerald plate. As one of the modern symbols of Shanghai, the 468 meter tall tower is the tallest in Asia and the third tallest TV tower in the world.The bird's eye view from the Tower is breathtaking, especially at night, when the nearby Bund is lit up.
    Municipal History Museum (inside the TV Tower) is located in the tower's pedestal, the Shanghai Municipal History Museum is a wonderful introduction to the city's interesting history. Multitudes of dioramas and models of Shanghai's historical streets give the visitor an eye into what life was like before private cars and skyscrapers ruled Shanghai.
    Shanghai Museum -- Shanghai Museum is to the south of the People's Square in the downtown area.As a museum of ancient Chinese art, Shanghai Museum possesses a collection of 120,000 precious works of art. The museum style and presentation surround visitors with artifacts demonstrating ancient wisdom and philosophy. The exterior design of the round dome and the square base symbolizes the ancient idea of a round heaven and a square land. Its rich and high-quality collection of ancient Chinese bronze, ceramics, painting and calligraphy is specially celebrated in the world. The museum is divided into eleven galleries and three exhibition halls. The eleven Galleries cover most of the major categories of Chinese art: Ancient Bronze, Ancient Ceramics, Paintings, Calligraphy, Ancient Sculpture, Ancient Jade, Coins, Ming and Qing Furniture, Seals, and Minority Nationalities.
    Yuyuan Garden -- Yuyuan Garden is located in the heart of Shanghai's old Chinese quarter and links to Yuyuan Market.
    Built in 1559 during the Ming Dynasty in the Suzhou style by a high official Pan Yunduan in honor of his father, the garden has maintained its classic beauty over the centuries. The Yuyuan Garden was considered the best garden in Southeast China. It is a renowned traditional landscape garden in Jiangnan. It is also a historical site and tourist attraction famous at home and abroad. There are hundreds of precious stele carvings which are done by famous artists in the past. The garden is a virtual maze of caves, gardens, rockeries, paths, bridges, and buildings. Even though many people have had a hand in rebuilding the garden over the centuries, it is seamlessly blended. Every corner you turn has a new surprise, and a total different view.
